More Info:
Caravan Man is a short quirky character portrait featuring Philip Dod, a ninety two year old retired electrical engineer and avid collector of old machinery. Philip’s barns contain a rambling and eclectic collection of machinery in various states of repair; he is particularly fond of Atco mowing machines and has over fifteen of them. However the film mainly focuses on Philips collection of Winchester Caravans.
Billed as ‘The Rolls Royce of Caravans’ the Winchesters are all hand made from between 1930 to 1950, and exude a quality that is rarely seen today. Philip is such an endearing character, and his child like enthusiasm for his machines, and especially his caravans is infectious, once you see the vans, their unique quality becomes obvious, and you cant help muttering the old saying ‘they don’t make them like that anymore’.
