The Soca river in north Western Slovenia, is an area of outstanding natural beauty, the locals call it The Land Of Living Water. On a brief visit in April 2010 I decided to hike up the rive and try and catch some of its life and moods.
The air and light that day was so clear and sharp I wanted to catch the river in greater detail than than the standard 1080p my 7D shoots, so instead I used stills mode. The cameras fast jpeg frame rate gave me super sharp 18mpx video at about 10fps. Shot with just the basics (at the time I had no tripod or grip, no focus loupe and no lens extras), this is the result.
While the result is far from perfect, with wobbly camera moves and in-exact focusing, it has a kind of home made super8 feel to it that I like. Attempts to reduce the flickery ness using frame blending and pixel motion give a mixture of results. But in the end I preferred the simplicity of keeping it at 12fps.
